Here is last year's winner:
Lucie Tartaglia, of Toronto, Ontario
For years I've been stagnant in my career, paralyzed with fear and a sense of worthlessness developed over time. I would continue to exist for one reason only, my beautiful son, now 13 but wise beyond his years. I was fortunate to have a job that paid the bills, but with a teenager at home and our expenses increasing, I needed a higher paying job. I meditated on my intention and eventually an opportunity became available. I was excited but fear was playing havoc with my mind. I began to doubt myself, but considering my son's well-being, I decided to apply. In the true spirit of Dr. Wayne Dyer, I submitted my application and simply released any expectations, accepting whatever fate rendered. One week later, I was contacted for an interview with a request to present a power point presentation, detailing my skills & experience. I knew that I didn't have the confidence to pull off a presentation but the look on my son's face when I told him I had an interview was the catalyst required to inspire me. On the eve of my interview, my son set up our computer and encouraged me to get started on my presentation, gently reminding me not to procrastinate any further. I would need my sleep he added, in order to be alert for the interview. I sat at the computer and stared at it, drawing a blank, trying to hide the anxiety and panic attacks I was experiencing. I shuffled back & forth, numerous times, from the computer to the couch trying to cope with the anxiety. On his way to bed, my son encouraged me once again to go back to the computer. (Moments earlier, I had already decided that I would withdraw my application). How would I break the news to my son? Defeated by negativity, I went to turn off the computer, when up popped a Power Point screen displaying five words in BOLD,PURPLE letters: "I BELIEVE IN YOU MOM". Those magical words transformed my life. I went on to complete my assignment, the Interview was a success and I got the job, because my son believed in me!
Quote from Lucie Tartaglia:
"My entry last year was based on a message of encouragement my son wrote for me during a difficult time in my life. Having participated in this contest has opened the flood gates of communication between my teenage son and I, both of us now recognizing the everlasting affects of positive words. We've both been inspired to use the power of positive words in our lives daily. I encourage everyone to enter this contest and allow this magic to touch your life".
